Jake Szabo to Participate in Columbus Crew SC Soccer Combine on December 14

COLUMBUS, Ohio --Senior Jakob Szabo (Worthington, OH) of the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team has been invited to participate in the second annual Columbus Crew SC College Combine on December 14 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at The Ohio State University.

Szabo is one of approximately 25 players in the Midwest Region to be invited to the combine. The combine is only open to players invited by the Columbus Crew SC First Team scouting, with consultation from the youth staff and local college coaches.

The senior midfielder recently ended a stellar three year career with the Panthers. In his three season at ODU, Szabo scored 15 goals. He also assisted on 16 goals, a number which ranks sixth in ODU men's soccer history. During his senior campaign, Szabo scored seven goals and added four assists, leading the Panthers in both categories, as well as in points with 18.

The Crew are known for building a roster around local talent as they set a Major League Soccer record starting four homegrown players in a match last season including three players from Akron and one from Ohio State.

In the first combine event last year, the Crew drafted one player, Adam Bedell, who went on to score two goals while playing in 16 games in his rookie season.

Szabo knows how important this combine will be for his future, "it's my first opportunity to get my name out for the Crew or anyone else. It's important for me to perform well so they don't just stop looking at me, you have to do something to prove yourself."

Szabo also stated, "The Crew staff is looking for someone that is going to stand out, you have to be the best player at the combine, and you have to be better than the players they already have."

"I've been training everyday. Running, lifting, and getting as many touches on the soccer ball that I can."
