Men's Soccer To Close Out Season at Home, Host Cedarville and Lake Erie

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team finishes its season with two home matches this week against Cedarville on Wednesday and Lake Erie on Friday.

The Panthers are currently 7-9 overall (5-8 GLIAC). Wednesday's opponent Cedarville, has an 11-4-2 overall record. Friday's opponent, Lake Erie, is third in the GLIAC with a 9-4-2 overall record (8-3-2 GLIAC).

Ohio Dominican lost 2-1 in double overtime at Malone on Friday. A goal in the first half by senior Jakob Szabo (Worthington, OH) put the Panthers up early in the match. The Pioneers scored a goal in the 67th minute to tie the game. At the 107:06, mark Malone was able to score the game winner.

On Sunday, the Panthers were defeated 2-0 at Walsh. The match remained scoreless until Walsh was able to score twice in the second half, once in the 60th minute, as well as, in the 69th minute.

Szabo is having a strong senior campaign as he ranks near the top in some significant GLIAC offensive categories. Szabo ranks fourth in shots with 47, fifth in goals with seven, and fifth in points with 18. Junior Justin Alexander (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) has 65 saves which is good for third in the conference. Sophomore Tanner Ebright (Pickerington, Ohio) ranks fifth in assists with four.

On Wednesday, at 7 p.m. the Panthers will take on Cedarville in a late season non-conference contest. Cedarville leads the all-time series record at 14-9-3. The Yellow Jackets are riding a three game winning streak including wins at Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan this past weekend. Cedarville has outscored opponents 13-2 in their last three games.

The Yellow Jackets are led by junior Connor Gilmour, who leads the team in many offensive categories with 32 points, 77 shots, 37 shots on goal and four game winners. Junior Christian Alexander has also scored three game winning goals for Cedarville this season.

Ohio Dominican's regular season comes to a close on Friday as it honors its six seniors for senior night as they take on Lake Erie at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium. Szabo, GJ Cook (Westerville, OH), Frazer Fernandes (Gahanna, OH), Trevor Gates (Gahanna, OH), Duncan Johnston (Powell, OH), and Brock Taylor (Columbus, OH) will all be playing in their final home match for ODU.

The Storm have been building momentum, going 6-0-1 in their last seven matches. This stretch includes a tie and a draw against nationally ranked Saginaw Valley State, and a win over then ranked, Tiffin. Sophomore Stuart Campbell and senior Alfred Majer lead the team in scoring with ten points apiece. Junior Anthony Novak paces the team with 37 shots.

The Panthers defeated Lake Erie in the first meeting of the season in Painesville, Ohio by a score of 1-0. ODU is 9-1-0 all-time against the Storm and have won the past three meetings.
