Midland, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team dropped a GLIAC matchup on the road against Northwood by a score of 2-1 on Sunday.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 6-4-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the GLIAC. Northwood improves to 6-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference.
The lone Panther goal was scored by senior Jakob Szabo (Worthington, OH).
In what turned out to be an eventful first half, which saw all three game goals scored, the Timberwolves were able to jump out to an early lead. NU scored in the 21st and 33rd minute to take a 2-0 lead.
In the 34th minute Szabo scored on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 2-1.
Though the Panthers outshot the Timberwolves 8-4 in the second half, ODU was unable to find the back of the net as they dropped their second straight conference match.
Szabo has now scored or assisted on three goals in the three of the last four games and has recorded a point in six of nine games played this season.
Sophomore Shane Facemyer (Sunbury, OH) led the Panthers in shots with three.
Overall, ODU outshot NU 12-11, but the Timberwolves held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
The Panthers recorded 25 fouls and also received two yellow cards and one red. NU had 16 fouls with five yellow and one red card.
ODU will look to bounce back on the road as they start the second half of GLIAC play, traveling to Findlay at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10. The Panthers defeated the Oilers in the first meeting this season in Columbus, by a score of 2-1.
