UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team dropped a tough match to No. 3 Saginaw Valley on the road, in a GLIAC contest.
The Panthers fall to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the GLIAC. With the win the Cardinals stay unbeaten on the season and improve to 8-0-1 overall (5-0-1 GLIAC).
The match saw neither team score in the first 34 minutes, but at 34:39, it was two Panther sophomores that connected as Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, OH) scored off an assist from Michael Fragoulis (Chios, Greece) to give ODU the first lead of the match at 1-0. The Black and Gold were able to take their lead into the break.
In the second half, Saginaw Valley was able to find the back of the net twice. The first Cardinal goal came in the 57th minute as junior goalkeeper Justin Alexander (Reynoldsburg, OH) was able to make a save on a penalty kick, but Craig Neal for Saginaw Valley scored off the rebound. The Cardinals added their second goal nine minutes later as Alexander made another save on a SVSU breakaway, but the rebound was put in the net. Saginaw Valley went on to win by a final score of 2-1.
ODU outshot the Cardinals 13-10 overall, but Saginaw Valley held a 6-5 advantage in shots on net.
The Panthers will look to rebound on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. as they travel to Midland, Michigan to face GLIAC foe Northwood.
