COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team used a strong first half to defeat Walsh in a Friday night GLIAC matchup.
The Panthers improve to 5-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the GLIAC. The Cavaliers drop to 3-3-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference.
ODU used a strong first half, led by junior Brent Wahle (Pataskala, OH), and senior Jacob Szabo (Worthington, OH), who each scored one goal. Sophomore Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, OH) added the third goal for the Panthers in the second half.
The Black and Gold got scored the first goal of the match in the 12th minute as Wahle scored off a cross from sophomore Tanner Ebright (Pickerington, OH). Szabo added to the Panther lead in the 23rd minute scoring off a rebounded shot. ODU was able to take their 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers had more opportunities to score, as they outshot Walsh, 12-4 in the second period. Schwall added the third goal of the match in the 83rd minute as he received a cross from Szabo.
Overall, the Panthers held a shot advantage of 28-5, with 10 shots coming on goal for ODU. Szabo led the team in shots with eight, with two being on goal. Sophomore Michael Fragoulis (Chios, Greece) recorded six shots in the match. Sophomore Shane Facemyer (Sunbury, OH) charted four shots for ODU.
Junior Justin Alexander (Reynoldsburg, OH) charted his third shutout of the season.
The Panthers will be back in action at Panther Stadium at 2:30 p.m. on September 28. ODU will welcome the Malone Pioneers for the Sunday matinee match.
