BAY CITY, Michigan – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team has been voted by the conference coaches to finish second in the GLIAC this season.
Coming off a successful 2013 season, which saw the Panthers win their first regular season and tournament GLIAC titles. Also ODU made their first appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament.
The Panthers received 41 points and one first place vote. ODU came up just three points short of taking the top spot, which is held by Tiffin, who received 44 points and six first place votes.
The other squad receiving the final first place vote was Saginaw Valley. Along with the one first place vote, the Cardinals received 39 points. Northwood (30 points) and Lake Erie (29 points) round out the top five. The final three places went to Walsh (16 points), Findlay (14 points), and Malone (11 points).
Last season the Panthers were co-regular season champions with Tiffin and won the GLIAC tournament finals against Saginaw Valley. ODU did have success last season against the Dragons and Cardinals going a combined 3-0-2 against them.
This year's Panther squad returns a great deal of experience as they return 19 members, including seven seniors.
ODU will open the season on the road at Urbana University on September 4. The first match at Panther Stadium will be on Sunday, September 14, at 2:00p.m. against Mercyhurst. The Lakers are ranked sixth in the NSCAA National Preseason Poll.
