COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its 18th contest of the regular season, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will travel to Lake Erie to face the Storm in a 1 p.m., Great Midwest Athletic Conference game this Saturday, January 20.
The Panthers (8-9, 3-7 G-MAC) will be looking for their second-straight win in the Jerome T. Osborne Center, where ODU concluded the 2016-17 campaign with an 82-77 win over LEC. Saturday's contest marks the first of two matchups between Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican this season.
Last week, ODU topped Davis & Elkins on the road, 79-67, before falling at Alderson Broaddus by a final mark of 67-65. Eight of the nine losses for the Panthers have come by eight points or less, but a win over the Storm would give the Panthers two road wins in their last three contests.
Ohio Dominican ranks in the top four of the Great Midwest in points per game, field goal and three point field goal percentages. At 78.4 points per contest, the Panthers rank fourth in the conference in scoring on the third-highest field goal percentage in the G-MAC at 48.5 percent. ODU also shoots 37.9 percent from the three-point line, the second highest percentage from behind the arc in the conference.
Leading the squad in scoring and rebounding is sophomore forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York), who is averaging 14.1 points and 8.6 boards per contest. Varence has five double-doubles this season and has finished in double-figures in points and rebounds for two-straight games. Sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) and senior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) are each averaging 12.1 points per game, and senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) also averages double figures in scoring at 11.6 points per contest.
A live audio broadcast of the ODU-LEC matchup will be available on the Panther Sports Network at PressBoxProductions.net.
