COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican couldn't get its offense on track as the men's basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision to visiting Ashland on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (0-2) shot 37.9 percent from the field and made just 4-of-21 (19.0 percent) from behind the arc while also turning the ball over 19 times.
Senior forward Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio) pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked three shots. Senior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) scored 19 points and sophomore guard Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) came off the bench to score 12.
The Panthers had a 10-4 lead early, but Ashland countered with a 17-4 run to go in front 21-14 with seven minutes left in the half. Williams buried a three to cut it to 25-23, and Ashland would take a 30-25 lead at the half.
Hickey scored eight straight points for the Panthers to close the deficit to 36-35 seven minutes into the half, but the Eagles countered with seven straight points to go back on top 43-35. The Panthers crept back to within 44-40 with eight minutes to play on a three-point play by senior guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio), but Ashland would score seven in a row to regain control of the game.
Ohio Dominican hits the road for a 7 p.m. game Wednesday at Seton Hill.
