Columbus, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team fell to Malone in a Saturday afternoon Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match up, 72-41 in Alumni Hall.
With the loss, ODU falls to 5-18 overall and 3-16 in the GLIAC. Malone improved their record to 13-10 overall and 11-8 in the GLIAC.
The Pioneers started the game strong on a 10-2 run over the first two minutes. ODU battled back to pull within four, 12-8, after a layup by sophomore forward, Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) with 13:15 remaining in the first half.
Malone was able to take back control of the game, going up by as many as eight points but the Panthers again, were able to pull within four again at 20-16 with 6:30 remaining in the first half.
A quick 5-0 run by the Pioneers gave them a 25-16 lead with just over five minutes left. Malone took their largest lead of the half, 14 points, as the teams headed to the locker rooms with the score 36-22.
Once play resumed in the second half, the Panthers struggled to score, as Malone put the game away with a 17-2 run to take a 53-24 lead with 13:28 remaining.
Weaver led the Panthers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) chipped in 11 points and senior forward Don Kellum (Chicago, IL) added 10 points and seven rebounds.
ODU will play their final two home games of the season next weekend as they host Ashland on Thursday, February 20 and Lake Erie on Saturday, February 22 in Alumni Hall. Tip-off for Thursday's game will be 7:30p.m.
