Shane Gaines enters his first season with the Ohio Dominican football coaching staff in the fall of 2019. Gaines recently completed a four-year playing career at NCAA Division III Salisbury University (Md.).
As a student-athlete for the Seagulls, Gaines appeared in 42 games with 104 total tackles and seven interceptions. A two-time captain as a defensive back, Gaines was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference and East Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015. He was then a 2018 Free Agent Football Preseason All-American before finishing his senior season as a first team selection in the NJAC and third team honoree in the East Region. Gaines was also a Free Agent Football D1-FCA Scout Bowl invite and participant, as well as a Spiral Senior Bowl Game invite following the 2018 campaign.
His coaching experience includes brief stints with Salisbury and Alvernia University (Pa.). Gaines spent January-March, 2019 as an assistant coach for Alvernia, leading the cornerbacks and the strength & conditioning program. At his alma mater, Gaines worked as a volunteer coach during the spring of 2019, helping develop the wide receiver group.
Outside of football, Gaines has experience in strength & conditioning. He has worked as an intern for the Salisbury Sports Performance program, as well as a fitness instructor and personal trainer for Pure Fitness.
Gaines graduated from Salisbury in the fall of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Physical Education and Exercise Science.
