GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior running back Brandon Schoen (Lewis Center, Ohio) was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District team on Thursday.
Schoen, who owns the school's career rushing record, carries a 3.44 GPA in business. In 2013, he earned GLIAC All-Academic Team honors. He is now eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be released later this month.
On the field, Schoen has rushed for 712 yards this fall (5.1 per carry) with seven touchdowns. He has also caught 12 passes for 191 yards, including a 79 yard touchdown catch.
He needed just 24 career games to establish ODU's new rushing record and will enter this Saturday's game with Saginaw Valley with 2,824 career yards and 25 touchdowns. He's averaging 113.0 yards per game and 5.9 yards per carry. His 25 rushing touchdown runs are tied for the most of any player in school history as well.
Schoen is the only back in school history to have multiple 1,000-yard seasons in his career and was also the first player to rush for over 1,000 yards as a freshman. He set a school record with 298 yards against Grand Valley State in 2012 and owns four of the seven longest runs in school history, including a record 88 yard score against Grand Valley State this fall.
The Panthers, ranked No. 11 in both national polls and No. 2 in Super Region Four, play Saginaw Valley at noon on Saturday.
