BAY CITY, Mich. – Junior linebacker Austin Osborne (Jackson, Ohio) was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for a career performance in No. 10 Ohio Dominican's 28-24 comeback win at No. 18 Grand Valley on Saturday.
Osborne made a career-high 11 tackles, including eight solo tackles, and had a half sack and 1.5 tackles for loss for the Panthers. Pressed into a larger role on the defense in the second half due to injuries, Osborne made six of his tackles in the fourth quarter, when ODU limited the Lakers to just 21 yards and two first downs to complete the rally.
Overall, the unit limited Grand Valley to just 318 yards of offense, including 26 rushing yards (1.1 yards per carry).
The Panther defense ranks first in the GLIAC in yards per game allowed (282.5) and rushing yards per game allowed (62.5).
Osborne's honor is the second consecutive GLIAC accolade for a Panther defensive player as classmate Cody Culbertson (Galloway, Ohio) earned the nod last week.
Ohio Dominican returns home to host Ashland at noon on Saturday at Panther Stadium.
