BAY CITY, Mich. – For the second time in his career, Ohio Dominican junior Cody Culbertson (Galloway, Ohio) has been named the GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Culbertson, a linebacker, made eight tackles in ODU's 59-14 victory over Malone on Saturday. He forced two fumbles, including one on a big hit on a sack. He was part of a defense that helped limit the Pioneers, one of the best rushing teams in the GLIAC last year, to just 97 yards on 45 attempts (2.2 yards per carry.) The Panthers had six takeaways, tying a school record by recovering five fumbles.
Culbertson is second in the country in forced fumbles and he now has forced three in his career. A 2013 First Team All-GLIAC selection, Culbertson also earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors last September after the win over Grand Valley State.
The Panthers, ranked No. 13 in the country by the AFCA and No. 10 by D2Football.com, play at Grand Valley at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Lakers suffered a 26-23 double overtime loss to Azusa Pacific in their opener last Thursday.
