BLACKLICK, Ohio – A four-run eighth inning by Walsh was too much for Ohio Dominican's baseball team to overcome as the Panthers fell 10-5 to the Cavaliers Saturday afternoon in G-MAC play.
ODU trailed 6-5 heading into that frame before the Cavaliers pulled away to take the opener in the series.
Senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) had three hits and junior Jonathan Conkle (Massillon, Ohio) had two for Ohio Dominican, who led 5-3 after five innings before the Cavaliers would ultimately score seven unanswered runs, starting with a three-run sixth.
Freshman Michael Lang (Cincinnati, Ohio) had an RBI single in the second inning to answer two Walsh runs in the first frame. The Panthers then strung together four straight hits to start the fourth, including a two-run basehit by senior Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio), to take a 4-2 lead.
Walsh scored a run in the fifth inning to make it 4-3, but the Panthers countered in the bottom half on an RBI single by sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) to go back in front by two runs.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday for ODU's Senior Day. Festivities begin at noon, with a first pitch scheduled for 12:15 p.m. from Panther Valley.
