Pitchers Lock Down Cal, Bats Rally In Ninth For 3-0 Win

WILSON, N.C. – Freshman Joel Roediger (Wapakoneta, Ohio) and sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) combined on a five-hit shutout and Ohio Dominican's offense came to life in the ninth inning as the Panthers defeated Cal (Pa.) 3-0 on Tuesday.

Scoreless headed to the ninth, Zeller reached on a fielder's choice and senior Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) and junior Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) each walked to load the bases with one out. Senior Brad Hull (Gahanna, Ohio) followed with an RBI single to left-center, and freshman Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) had a sac fly to make it 2-0.

Senior Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) then followed with an RBI basehit to left to make it 3-0, and Zeller set down the side in the ninth, whiffing the final two hitters to seal the win.

Rodeiger was impressive in his first collegiate start, fanning seven in 6.0 innings and surrendering four hits. He walked just one and threw 61 of 102 pitches for strikes.

Zeller entered in the seventh and tossed the final three frame, allowing just one hit while punching out five to pick up his first win of the season. He threw 31 of 45 pitches for strikes.

Hillard and freshman Manny Vorhees (Wapakoneta, Ohio) each had two hits, senior Chris Sackett (Loveland, Ohio) drew three walks and Machuga walked twice to lead the Panther offense.

Ohio Dominican is scheduled to begin G-MAC play in Panther Valley with a doubleheader against Tiffin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
