Bases Loaded Walk Sends Baseball To Extra Inning Win Over Kutztown

WILSON, N.C. -- With two outs in the bottom of the 11th, the bases loaded and a 3-2 count, senior Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) drew a walk to send Ohio Dominican's baseball team to a 5-4 win over Kutztown Sunday night.

The Panthers had scored runs in the ninth and 10th innings to keep the game alive, and after keeping the Golden Bears off the scoreboard in the top of the 11th, put together one more tally to pick up the win.

Senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) finished 3-for-3 with a homer, two walks, two runs, two RBIs and a sac fly in the win. Sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) had two doubles and junior Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) had two hits as well.

Senior Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) was sharp as he allowed just four hits and one unearned run in 7.0 innings. The righty struck out eight and walked two, throwing 67 of 94 pitches in the zone.

Kaucher launched a solo shot to center, his second of the season, to give ODU a 1-0 lead in the third. In the fifth, the Panthers tacked on another run as Kaucher walked to start the inning, then later came in on a two-out single by junior Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio).

Kutztown cut into the lead in the seventh as the Golden Bears scored an unearned run, but Bault worked out of trouble with a fielder's choice grounder to end the inning with the bases loaded.

However, Kutztown would score twice in the ninth to take its first lead of the game, 3-2, forcing ODU to respond.

Kaucher would hit a sac fly to tie the game back up at 3-3, but ODU stranded the winning run at third base, and Kutztown scored again in the 10th to regain the lead at 4-3.

Hillard would start the bottom half with a double, though, and came in to score on an error to even the game at 4-4.

Freshman Manny Vorhees (Wapakoneta, Ohio) worked around a pair of two-out singles in the 11th to keep KU off the board, and a Komminsk walk, a Zeller double and a Kaucher walk set up Hillard's free pass to seal the game.

Ohio Dominican takes on Glenville State at 11 a.m. Monday.
