PEMBROKE, N.C. – Off to an 11-4 start to its season, Ohio Dominican's baseball team jumped into the NCBWA Top 25 this week, landing at No. 22.
The Panthers had received five votes in last week's poll and were ranked No. 30, but picked up 75 votes this week to earn their national ranking.
"The guys have been doing a great job of playing to their abilities," said second-year head coach Chris Antonides. "I'm very proud of the way they go about their business."
ODU, which is also No. 2 in the Midwest Region, is off to a torrid start both at the plate and on the mound. The Panthers lead the conference in batting average, runs scored, doubles, triples, RBIs and on-base percentage while ranking third in the league in slugging percentage.
ODU's pitching staff is tops in the league with a 3.76 ERA and .251 batting average against while ranking second in strikeouts.
The Panthers are also third in the league in fielding percentage and have committed the fewest errors of any team who has played at least 15 games thus far.
Ohio Dominican is scheduled to start G-MAC play this weekend with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday against Ohio Valley and a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday against Cedarville, with all four games taking place in Panther Valley.
