COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the final time in the 2025 season, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (4-4, 3-4 G-MAC) football team played on the turf at Panther Stadium as they played host to the Lake Erie Storm (1-8, 1-6) on Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon.
For Senior and Veterans Appreciation Day, the Panthers defeated the Storm 30-14 to break the two-game losing streak.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Carson Parker completed 25-of-39 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown on the day.
- Markquan Rucker carried the ball 30 times for 84 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
- Rucker became the first Panther in nearly six years to have 30 or more carries (EJ Colson; at Hillsdale College; 11/16/2019).
- His 30 carries are tied for seventh most in a single game in program history.
- Jayden Cornell was the top target with 11 catches on 14 targets for 92 yards. Cornell has jumped to eighth all-time in catches (136) and ninth in touchdowns (14). Conner Campbell and Brayden Sanders each had four catches for 46 and 27 yards, respectively. Campbell set a career-high with his receiving line. Joshua Moore and Rucker combined for six catches.
- Jace Schaefer tied his career-high with ten tackles and two sacks. Harlee Hanna followed with six tackles and two sacks - his first career sacks.
- Bryce Washington had one of two ODU picks while RJ Maddox added his fourth interception of the season.
- Rico Franklin-Davis gave the Panthers five sacks in the game with a sack.
- This was the fifth game this season for the ODU defense to have multiple interceptions.
- Ohio Dominican had advantages in the following categories: first downs (24-9), total offense (269-184), time of possession (40:52-19:08), third down conversions (9/19-1/12) and sacks (5-2).
- The time of possession was the 2nd highest mark in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio Dominican scored first on their first drive of the day - putting together a seven-play, 77-yard drive. Rucker got the Panthers on the board with a 22-yard touchdown run with 11:04 on the clock in the first quarter.
- Maddox ended the first Storm drive with his interception, taking the ball back to the Lake Erie one-yard line. Two plays later, Rucker had his second touchdown of the game as ODU led 14-0 with 8:37 left.
- Henry Vakerics tallied the first of his three field goals on a short field for a 17-0 lead. Vakerics converted his first field goal of 21 yards with four minutes left in the opening quarter.
- Brady Clark and Keyshawn Johnson got a 41-yard touchdown as the first quarter was winding down, trimming the deficit to 17-7.
- Both defenses were stout in the second quarter with three punts and a sack fumble accounting for the first four drives. Ohio Dominican answered the call late with a 2:58 scoring drive of 78 yards for a 24-7 lead. Parker threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Cornell under two minutes left before halftime.
- Donell Jackson Jr. came away with a fumble on the second half kickoff to give the Panthers the ball back. Vakerics cashed in from 32 yards, allowing the Panthers to double up on points around the intermission 27-7.
- Lake Erie got a blocked punt late in the third quarter as Joshua Carter took the block back 31 yards, putting the Storm down 27-14 as the third quarter ended.
- After a near ten minute drive, Vakerics closed the scoring with a 34-yard field goal with 5:26 left.
