FINDLAY, Ohio - On the road against a top 15 team, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-4, 2-4 G-MAC) football team gave the #14 ranked Findlay Oilers (8-0, 6-0) all they could handle on Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon.
Findlay erased a 13 point deficit in the second half, defeating the Panthers 27-20 at Donnell Stadium.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Carson Parker set career-highs for the second straight week after he went 22-of-39 passing for 266 yards and two touchdowns.
- Jayden Cornell led the receivers with ten catches for 128 yards, catching a pair of touchdown passes. Cornell now has seven 100-yard receiving games in his career and has back-to-back weeks over 100 yards. Brayden Sanders had three receptions for 56 yards with Nathan Webster also making three catches for 30 yards.
- Harlee Hanna led the defense with nine tackles with Gabe Pence and Kaden Holmes having eight tackles each.
- Pence had the lone sack for the Panthers while Holmes returned his second pick for a touchdown and is now sitting at three interceptions this season.
- Holmes is tied for the most interception return touchdowns in a season.
- Bryce Washington recovered a fumble with seven tackles (one tackle for loss).
- Rico Franklin-Davis had the second interception for ODU on Saturday.
- This was the fourth game this season for the ODU defense to have multiple interceptions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Findlay scored first on their second drive of the game, taking a 7-0 lead on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Chase Harrison to Denny Furlong as the first quarter was in its final minute.
- The next drive for the Oilers was ended by a fumble recovery by Washington - stopping a 13-play, 62-yard drive deep in ODU territory.
- Four plays later, Parker connected with Cornell for a 21-yard touchdown pass as the game was tied 7-7 with 2:13 left in the first half.
- On the first play on the second half, Holmes took the Harrison pass 41-yards to the house for a pick six as ODU led 14-7 nine seconds into the third quarter.
- After a three-and-out, Ohio Dominican got into the end zone again on a Parker to Cornell touchdown pass of two yards. With 7:53 remaining in the third, ODU's lead grew to 20-7 as the extra point was no good.
- Findlay took advantage of an ODU fumble by Markquan Rucker to cut into the lead. A four-yard touchdown pass from Harrison to Aidan Guillbeau with 3:17 to in the third made it 20-14.
- Three minutes into the fourth quarter saw the Oilers regain the 21-20 advantage with a 35-yard pass from Harrison to Furlong.
- Franklin-Davis came up with an interception but ODU could not capitalize. With 4:51 left, Findlay's Jayon Harvey picked off Parker and were able to get into position to add onto the lead.
- For a third time, Furlong scored on a 35-yard passing touchdown from Harrison. The Oilers led 27-20 with 2:07 to go.
- Findlay got a fourth down stop near midfield with under a minute left, sealing the come-from-behind win.
