HILLSDALE, Mich. - For the 2023 season finale, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (4-7, 3-6 G-MAC) battled with the Hillsdale Chargers (6-5, 6-3) for the fifth straight in the regular season finale.
Hillsdale used a late second half scoring run to win the finale 35-17 over the Panthers on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Frank "Muddy Waters" Stadium.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Drew Gallehue (Edon, Ohio) passed for a career-high of 251 yards through the air. He completed 24-of-38 throws, throwing two touchdowns.
- Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) finished with 56 yards rushing, making him the fifth Panther to reach 2,000 career rushing yards. Whittaker carried the ball 20 times and also added three catches for 30 yards.
- Kobe Barnett (Blacklick, Ohio) accounted for 40 yards on seven attempts in the backfield.
- Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio) had his fifth game of at least 100 all-purpose yards as he accounted for 106 yards. He caught seven passes for 44 yards while returning two kicks for 62 yards.
- Jayden Cornell (Kenton, Ohio) managed 72 yards on six catches for 37 yards after catch.
- Drysten Crallie (Columbus, Ohio) and Zach Bartrum (Meigs County, Ohio) caught touchdown passes from Gallehue.
- Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) led all players with nine tackles in the game. Jayden Hill (Gahanna, Ohio) added eight tackles with Michael Powers (West Mansfield, Ohio) at seven stops.
- Brady Blattner (Cumberland, Ohio) had a team-high two tackles for loss of his six tackles on the day.
- Kalos Farrier (Cincinnati, Ohio) had the lone Panther sack with two forced fumbles. He becomes the sixth player to force two fumbles in a game and first since 2014.
- Blaine Swartzmiller (Attica, Ohio) and Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, New Jersey) recovered a fumble each.
- Ohio Dominican had 353 yards of total offense, the second-highest output of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hillsdale started the scoring on their first drive with a 30-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead with 11:43 left in the first quarter. That lead was maintained until the middle of the second quarter.
- The Panthers went 68 yards in eight plays with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Gallehue to Bartrum. His third touchdown catch of the season tied the game at seven with 7:16 left before halftime.
- Farrier forced his first fumble two plays later as Hillsdale neared midfield as Swartzmiller recovered the ball. Ohio Dominican could not convert the short field as a field goal was missed in the final 90 seconds of the half.
- The Chargers quickly took a 14-7 lead into the half with a late drive and a two-yard touchdown run.
- Farrier struck again on the fourth play of the second half as he got a strip sack of Hillsdale's quarterback. Miller-Garrett came out of the pile with the football as ODU took over inside the red zone. AJ Young (Lexington, Ohio) kicked a 25-yard field goal to cut the lead to 10-7 with 12:14 on the clock.
- Two more Hillsdale rushing touchdowns of 30-yards and one yard, respectively, pushed the lead to 28-10 at the end of the third period.
- The fifth touchdown run of the game for Hillsdale, another one yard run, gave Hillsdale a 35-10 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
- On the next drive, the Panthers drove into the red zone with an 11-play, 64-yard drive that was stopped on fourth down at the six yard line.
- In the closing seconds, Gallehue threw a 11-yard touchdown pass to Crallie to end the scoring at 35-17.
