Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican football team grinded out a shutout win on Homecoming Saturday (Oct. 1), shutting out the Walsh Cavaliers at Panther Stadium.
The Panthers compiled nearly 400 yards of total offense in a 21-0 win over the Cavaliers, the fifth straight win on Homecoming and the 11th straight win over the North Canton foe.
Ohio Dominican sits at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Great Midwest as Walsh falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the G-MAC.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Despite a slow start to the contest, the Panthers led the total offense category 395-118.
- Ohio Dominican outpassed the Cavaliers 286-88 and then held Walsh to 30 yards rushing while rushing for 109 yards.
- The Panthers tied a season-high with 26 first downs and nearly held the ball for almost 37 minutes, just seconds from a season-best.
- Ohio Dominican was 50% on third down conversions overall, converting ten of 20 tries.
- Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Indiana) shook off two interceptions to throw for 289 passing yards and complete 27 of 46 passes. Byrd had one passing touchdown and added a rushing touchdown to the mix.
- Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) (51 yards), Jordan Pantaleo (Dresden, Ohio) (40 yards), and Leo Nixon (Hilliard, Ohio) (33 yards) all contributed to the Panthers' rushing game. Pantaleo started the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
- Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio) was one of two Panthers to have seven catches in the game, totaling 79 yards. Zach Bartrum (Meigs County, Ohio) had seven catches for 73 yards on the day. Austin Davis (Wooster, Ohio) caught six throws for 56 yards.
- Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) led the Panthers defense with eight tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
- CeAyre Hall (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack to go along for his five tackles. AJ Crider (Clinton, Pa.) also had five tackles and one tackle for a loss.
- Qwyn Williams (Gahanna, Ohio) joined Hall with a sack on the afternoon.
- Jaylin Garner (Shaker Heights, Ohio) broke the ODU tackles for loss record as he now has 38.5 tackles for loss, surpassing Sydney Omameh (38.0 TFL).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio Dominican's defense came up big on the opening drive, stopping the Cavaliers on fourth down in Panthers territory. The Panthers could not capitalize on the fourth down stop as Walsh got the ball back on an interception.
- The defense continued to swarm as the Panthers got two more three and outs as the first quarter came to a close, tied at zero.
- A miscue on a ODU second quarter punt gave Walsh the ball on a short field. Godwin Joe (Cleveland, Ohio) picked off Walsh's Tom Vatter with an interception in the red zone. Ohio Dominican went on a six play, 80-yard drive to score the first points of the game. Jordan Pantaleo scored from three yards out, with 7:41 remaining in the first half.
- Three plays later, Dimitri Mitsopoulos (Toledo, Ohio) got another interception for ODU and returned the ball to the two-yard line. Jake Byrd faked the crowd at Panther Stadium on a two-yard touchdown run. ODU's lead grew to 14-0 with two touchdowns in a matter of two minutes.
- Ohio Dominican led 14-0 at the halftime break.
- After Walsh's first drive of the half stalled with a missed field goal, Ohio Dominican turned the next drive into points. Byrd threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Wolf as the score jumped to 21-0 with 4:48 to go in the third period.
- The fourth quarter was a scoreless battle as Ohio Dominican won the game 21-0.
