Football Shuts Out Walsh on the Road

CANTON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican defense shut out Walsh for the second consecutive meeting to stay unbeaten in its spring campaign with a 17-0 road victory on Saturday.

The Panthers have allowed three points over their first two games of the season to move to 2-0. Ohio Dominican has conceded just 10 points over the past three meeting against Walsh, including nine consecutive scoreless quarters after play on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • One week after holding Lake Erie to 56 second half yards, the Panthers conceded 56 first half yards to the Walsh offense.
  • ODU took the opening drive of the game and went 76 yards over 14 plays to take a 7-0 lead.
  • Redshirt junior Evan Ernst (Mason, Ohio) connected with senior David Turner (Fort Wayne, Ind.) on an 18-yard touchdown throw to open the scoring.
  • The ODU defense continued to shine, not allowing a first down over the opening 30 minutes, forcing five three-and-outs.
  • A late first field goal from senior Jed Quackenbush (Newark, Ohio) gave the Panthers a 10-0 lead. Quackenbush's 21-yard attempt gave ODU a two-score advantage at the intermission.
  • Ohio Dominican and Walsh traded punts for most of the second half and the only score was a two-yard run from senior Frederick Pitts V (Huber Heights, Ohio) late in the fourth quarter.

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • The Panthers held a 298-151 advantage in total offense. Time of possession was once again in favor of the Black & Gold, 35:32-24:28.
  • ODU relied on its edge in the ground game, out rushing the Cavaliers 136-29. Pitts led the Panthers with 80 yards on 16 attempts. Freshman Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) also ran 16 times for 57 yards.
  • Ernst completed 21-of-34 passes for 162 yards and the one touchdown.
  • Turner hauled in a team-high six catches for 54 yards and one score. Redshirt junior James Morgan (Columbus, Ohio) registered five receptions for 33 yards.
  • For the second straight week and the third time in the past four outings, senior Dauson Dales (Defiance, Ohio) posted double digit tackles. Dales led ODU with 10 stops.
  • Redshirt freshman Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) made seven tackles for the second straight week. Senior Desdamon Lake (Youngstown, Ohio) and freshman Michael Powers (West Mansfield, Ohio) each recorded six tackles.
  • Making his first career interception was junior Godwin Joe (Cleveland, Ohio). Joe made three tackles and had 0.5 tackle for loss.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers are scheduled to host Ky. Wesleyan next Saturday, March 27.
  • The home opener for ODU is slated for a noon kick off.
