Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican football team exploded for a season-high 502 offensive yards during Saturday's Homecoming win over Walsh, 56-17.
The Panthers hits 500 offensive yards and 50 points for the first time since Sept. 29, 2019 season, a 56-10 triumph at Alderson Broaddus.
ODU's fourth consecutive Homecoming Game victory, improves the Black & Gold to 6-2 overall and into a four-team share of first place in the Great Midwest at 3-1. Walsh dropped its seventh straight game, falling to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the G-MAC.
The Panthers have won 10 straight meetings against the Cavaliers, improving their all-time series record to 12-4.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- ODU enjoyed a 502-297 advantage in total offense. The Panther offense was led by a season-high 259 yards on the ground.
- The Black & Gold averaged 7.3 yards per play, including 6.3 yards per rush.
- Frederick Pitts V (Huber Heights, Ohio) posted his second 100-yard performance of the fall, rushing for 105 yards on 15 carries.
- Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) averaged nearly nine yards per carry, totaling 89 yards on 10 attempts.
- Both Pitts and Whittaker rushed for three touchdowns, each setting a new career-best mark.
- Pitts' performance moves him into fifth on ODU's all-time rushing list (1,631 yards) and a tied for sixth in touchdowns (16).
- Through the air, Evan Ernst (Mason, Ohio) completed nine of his first 10 throws before finishing the game with 222 yards and one score to DeAndre Clark (Dover, Ohio).
- Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Ind.) saw action at quarterback for the first time in his collegiate career, completing three passes for 21 yards, including an eight-yard scoring toss to Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio).
- Five different Panther receivers recorded multiple catches, led by David Turner (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with five for 69 yards. Turner led ODU with 127 all-purpose yards.
- A total of 23 players recorded at least one tackle for the Panther defense.
- Dauson Dales (Defiance, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 11 stops, his fifth double-digit tackling performance of the season, including each of the past three games.
- ODU had six tackles for loss on the day, with Jayden Hill (Gahanna, Ohio) and Chance Canady (Columbus, Ohio) each recording a team-high 1.5. Hill was second on the team with seven total stops.
- Both Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) and Kylen McGill (Middletown, Ohio) recorded five-plus tackles and two pass breakups, with both also collecting their first collegiate interceptions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers scored a touchdown on each of their first three possessions to lead 21-0 after 15 minutes of play. ODU needed just nine total offensive plays to tally its first two scores.
- After Walsh lit the scoreboard for the first time with a 30 yard field goal in the second quarter, the Panthers added two additional touchdowns in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 35-3 lead into the intermission.
- ODU outgained Walsh 318-132 in the first half, which included 214 yards through the air for the Black & Gold.
- The Panthers were also 5-for-6 on 3rd down in the first half, while holding Walsh to 0-for-5.
- Ohio Dominican outscored Walsh 21-14 in the second half to secure the 56-17 victory.
