Football Falls in Overtime to Findlay, 21-14

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican football team saw its five-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon at Panther Stadium, falling in overtime to Findlay, 21-14.

The Panthers drop to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Great Midwest play. The Oilers improve to 5-2 overall and remain unbeaten in G-MAC play, 3-0. Saturday marked just the second loss for ODU in the all-time series history with UF, as the Panthers still lead 8-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two field goals from Jed Quackenbush (Newark, Ohio)

  • Quackenbush capped an eight-play, 46-yard opening drive for ODU with a 46-yard field goal. Then on the Panthers' third possession he added a 21-yard field goal, giving ODU the 6-0 advantage at the 13:30 mark of the second quarter.

  • Findlay responded with a 27-yard touchdown pass in the closing minutes of the first half to take a 7-6 lead into the intermission.

  • ODU was held to 28 yards on seven plays over its final three offensive series of the first half.

  • Out of the break, the Oilers used the opening drive to go 77 yards over 13 plays, with a nine-yard touchdown pass giving UF a 14-6 lead with 7:57 to play in the third quarter.

  • ODU answered with its own scoring drive its next opportunity, covering 65 yards over 11 plays.

  • Evan Ernst (Mason, Ohio) rushed in from one yard out for the Panthers' only touchdown of the game. The senior quarterback then converted the two-point play following the touchdown with a pass to Frederick Pitts V (Huber Heights, Ohio), which tied the game at 14-all with 2:02 remaining in the third quarter.

  • Both defenses stepped up in the fourth quarter, leaving the game in a 14-14 stalemate after 60 minutes of play.

  • Findlay had a 43-yard field goal attempt hit the right post as time expired to send the game into overtime.

  • In the extra session, ODU's second overtime game of the fall and third in program history, Findlay scored on the first offensive possession. The Oilers converted the point-after and led 21-14.

  • Needing a touchdown, ODU was forced into a fourth and seven, which resulted in an incomplete pass, snapping the Panthers' seven-game win streak against Findlay.
