INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio Dominican's women's and men's cross country teams were tabbed eighth and ninth respectively in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour, the conference announced Monday.
The women's squad accrued 81 points to rank eighth in the voting, while the men's team garnered 53 points to come in at ninth.
ODU is looking forward to competition in the Great Midwest this season and returns 10 runners from a year ago. Junior Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) returns after setting the men's 10k record in 2016 for ODU with a time of 32:53.27 while also notching the fifth-fastest 8k time in ODU men's cross country history. Also returning for the men's squad is junior Alejandro Serna (Duncanville, Texas), who led Ohio Dominican in three of its six races in last year.
Senior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio) looks to build off a strong junior season in which she set a 5k personal best en route to the eighth-fastest finish in Ohio Dominican women's cross country history with a run of 19:25.0.
The Panthers will compete at seven meets this fall and will compete in the Great Midwest Championships on Saturday, October 21 in Nashville, Tennessee. Ohio Dominican will make two trips to the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships on Friday, September 29 and NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Saturday, October 21. ODU will also make return trips to the OWU Invitational in Powell on September 9 and Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday, October 13 in Wilmington, as well as competing at the Spartan Invite in East Lansing, Michigan for the first time on Friday, September 15.
In its first meet of the fall, ODU will compete in the Battle of Columbus in Westerville, Ohio on Friday, September 1.
