OWENSBORO, Ky. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team challenged host Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday night, but ultimately fell 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 16-25, 11-25) in G-MAC action.
Junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) tallied 23 digs and freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) added 20 to lead the Panther defense. Sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs, while sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) finished with 21 assists, 14 digs and seven kills for a double-double as well.
Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) finished with 13 kills, but ODU hit just .023 in the match after starting the first set at a .231 clip.
ODU trailed 14-11 in the first set before mounting a comeback. Rybarczyk's ace leveled the score at 15, and ODU took its first lead of the set at 17-16 on a kill by Young and a KWC setting error.
Ohio Dominican then found itself behind 20-19 before closing the set with a strong push. A block by freshman Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) and Remmetter and an ace by Carmichael put ODU on top 21-20, and the Panthers would ultimately claim the set on a KWC hitting error.
In the second set, ODU had a 13-9 lead after a Remmetter kill, and was even at 19-19 on a block by Carmichael and Remmetter, but the hosts would pull away with the set to draw level in the match.
The third set was also tied at 15 before KWC closed the set on a 10-1 run, and Kentucky Wesleyan would close the match out in the fourth frame.
Ohio Dominican finished with a season-high 84 digs in the match.
ODU remains on the road for a 2 p.m. (ET) match Saturday at Trevecca Nazarene.
