COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) tallied a season-high 24 digs but it wasn't enough as Ohio Dominican's volleyball team fell 3-0 (15-25, 21-25, 23-25) to visiting Cedarville Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
It's the fifth time Rybarczyk has registered at least 20 digs this season, and her 8.0 digs per set are also a season-best.
Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) registered 28 assists, five kills and five digs, while sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) added 12 kills on .242 hitting along with eight digs. Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) added 11 kills and junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) finished with 11 digs.
After dropping the opening set, the second frame featured eight ties and two lead changes between the teams. Kills by Remmetter and freshman Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) put the Panthers in front 12-10, but Cedarville countered with six straight points. A kill by Rutter and consecutive Cedarville hitting errors closed the gap to 23-21, but the Yellow Jackets finished the set with a pair of kills.
ODU then led throughout most of the third frame, with back-to-back kills by Remmetter and a block by Barr and Carmichael putting the Panthers in front 14-8. A kill from Young and an ace by Barr made it 18-13, forcing a Cedarville timeout, but the Yellow Jackets responded and tied the game at 21. Young's kill kept ODU within 24-23, but one final kill from Cedarville (4-11, 3-5 G-MAC) ended the match.
Ohio Dominican (2-14, 0-8 G-MAC) hits the road for an 8 p.m. (ET) match at Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday.
