COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team closed out its first weekend of home matches with a 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 16-25) setback to visiting Hillsdale on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
Sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) led all players with 13 kills while adding six digs, marking the seventh time this season she's been in double figures in kills. She hit .219 for the match as well.
Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) chipped in with nine kills, hitting .233, with seven digs. Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) had 21 assists, 10 digs, and six kills on nine swings, while freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished with 10 digs.
The opening set saw seven ties and four lead changes in the early-going before the Chargers used a 9-0 run to build a 15-7 advantage and pull away from there. ODU did hit .242 in the set, committing just one hitting error.
A 7-0 Charger run in the second set saw the visitors build a 19-8 lead, but ODU rallied. A block by freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio) and a tandem block from Barr and Remmetter helped bring ODU within 21-15, and an ace by Rybarczyk would cut it to 22-17, but the Panthers couldn't close the gap any further.
After falling behind 17-7 in the third set, ODU had another run, as Barr's kill made it 21-15, but Hillsdale (8-3, 5-0 G-MAC) would close out the match.
ODU (2-12, 0-5 G-MAC) remains at home to take on Tiffin at 7 p.m. Friday in Alumni Hall.
