COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team lost a nail-biter to visiting Lake Erie on Friday night in Alumni Hall, dropping all three sets by two points (25-27, 23-25, 24-26).
Sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded 14 kills and 10 digs and classmate Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) neared a triple-double as she tallied eight kills, 24 assists and 10 digs, hitting .438. Freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) tallied 21 digs and six assists, while freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) added seven kills and junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) finished with nine digs. In the first set, ODU rallied from deficits of 12-5 and 15-7 and jumped in front 20-17 on a kill by Barr. Lake Erie responded, pulling in front 24-22, before a kill by freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio) and a Storm hitting error evened the score. Still tied at 25, Lake Erie scored the final two points to take the set.
The second set saw ODU again come back from an early deficit as the Panthers surged back from a 9-4 hole to draw level first at 12-12 and stay close throughout until a kill at the end by the Storm put the visitors in front 2-0 in the match.
The third set was the tightest of them all, with 17 ties and five lead changes. The Panthers were able to build a 20-16 lead on a block by Kizer and Young and had the serve with a 24-23 lead, but Lake Erie scored the final three points to close out the match.
