COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Anna Ficker (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached 1,000 career digs, but Ohio Dominican's volleyball team dropped its Great Midwest and home opener to visiting Cedarville 3-1 (20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-25) on Tuesday night in Alumni Hall.
After ODU took the third frame, the fourth set featured eight ties and four lead changes before the Yellow Jackets surged ahead with a 9-1 run to go in front 19-11.
Junior Ciara Ralston (Findlay, Ohio) led the Panthers with 12 kills, and she also hit .265 in the match. Freshman Alyssa Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) tallied eight kills with a .316 hitting percentage and junior Kelly Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) added six kills with a career-high 12 digs.
Ficker finished with 17 digs and freshman Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) recorded 27 assists.
After dropping the first two sets, ODU hit .256 in the third frame with 14 kills. Freshman Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) and Nadler had kills and Hoyng and Barr combined on a block to put ODU in front 14-12, forcing a Cedarville timeout. Barr added a kill and junior Jordan Jaeckin (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) had an ace to help ODU build a 20-12 advantage and cap the 9-0 run.
The Yellow Jackets closed within three at 21-18, but a kill by Hoyng and a block from junior Patricia Barreto (Findlay, Ohio) and Ralston helped put the set out of reach.
Ohio Dominican returns to the road to take on Findlay at 7 p.m. Friday.
