COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) and freshman Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) combined for 39 kills and each hit.500 or better to send Ohio Dominican's volleyball team past visiting Tiffin 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 15-25, 26-24, 15-10) Tuesday night in GLIAC action from Alumni Hall.
Trailing 2-1 in the match and throughout most of the fourth set, the Panthers recovered from a 23-22 deficit in the frame to force a decisive fifth set, in which they only trailed 1-0 before taking control to gran the win.
Oestreich registered a season-best 20 kills in 36 swings with just two errors (.500 attack percentage), while Reder was sublime as well with a .529 hitting percentage (career-high 19 kills and just one error in 34 swings).
ODU (11-15, 5-9 GLIAC) trailed by as much as four (15-11) in that fourth set but came back to tie it at 18 on Reder's kill. The lead swung back-and-forth from that point, with Tiffin (11-12, 2-12 GLIAC) taking its 23-22 edge on a Panther hitting error.
ODU tied it on Oestreich's termination, then had set point after a kill from junior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio). The Dragons answered with a kill of their own to extend the set, but ODU sealed it on consecutive kills from Rindler and Reder.
ODU then raced out to a 7-3 lead in the fifth, aided by consecutive kills from Oestreich, and the Dragons never drew within three points for the rest of the set. Reder's 19th and final kill sealed the victory for the Panthers.
