AURORA, Ill. – Four players had nine or more kills but Ohio Dominican's volleyball team fell 3-2 to Quincy Saturday in the final day of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament.
The Panthers had a 2-1 lead in the match and a four-point lead in the fifth set but couldn't close out Quincy.
Sophomore Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) had 15 kills, senior Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.) and sophomore Courtney Braun (Hilliard, Ohio) each had 11 and freshman Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) added nine.
Freshman Heidi Hess (Dayton, Ohio) had 26 assists and Barker chipped in with 19 digs to lead the Panthers.
After dropping the first set 25-22, ODU opened a 7-2 lead in the second set on Barker's kill. Quincy hung around, eventually tying the set at 19, but ODU closed strong as junior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) served out the final three points, closing the set with an ace for a 25-19 win.
ODU found itself down 6-2 and 17-11 in the third set but rallied, drawing within 17-16 on a pair of aces by Hess and tying it at 20 on Barker's kill. Another ace and a kill by Oestreich made it 22-20, but Quincy tied it at 24. The teams swapped points until kills by Braun and Rindler and a block by Kraemer and freshman Taylor Foster (Ida, Mich.) closed the set for the Panthers at 28-26.
ODU trailed just 20-19 in the fourth set but couldn't pull off the comeback, then dropped the decisive fifth set to fall to 9-14 on the year.
The Panthers play at Wayne State at 7 p.m. on Friday.
