COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) recorded 21 kills and junior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) had a career-best 22 digs, but Ohio Dominican's volleyball team couldn't rally past Michigan Tech, falling 3-2 Saturday at Alumni Hall.
Kraemer hit .486 for the match, while freshman Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) chipped in with 15 kills. Freshman Heidi Hess (Dayton, Ohio) had a season-best 30 assists and classmate Megan Hendershot (Galloway, Ohio) had 21 digs as well to lead the Panthers.
The Panthers (8-12, 3-8 GLIAC) jumped to a hot start, tallying 15 kills in the first set and hitting .263. ODU led by as many as four points at 19-15, but the Huskies came back to tie it at 20. A Huskie hitting error and a kill by Kraemer put ODU on top 22-20, and Kraemer notched two more terminations down the stretch to help the Panthers to a 25-22 win.
After Michigan Tech (8-12, 5-6 GLIAC) bounced back with 25-19 and 25-16 set wins in the second and third frames, ODU took advantage of MTU errors in the fourth to claim a 25-17 win. The Panthers led by as much as 13 in the set as the Huskies committed six service errors in the frame.
MTU came back strong to start the fifth set, though, grabbing a 5-1 lead. ODU rallied to tie it at six on Oestreich's kill, but surrendered four straight points to fall behind 10-6. The Panthers drew within 11-9 and 14-12 on kills by Kraemer, but the Huskies ended it with a kill themselves to take the match.
ODU hit .156 for the match, compared to .202 for Michigan Tech.
Ohio Dominican travels to Aurora, Ill., for the GLIAC-GLVC Crossover on Friday and Saturday. Opponents and match times will be determined later this week.
