SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Sophomore Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) and junior Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) combined for 25 kills and the Panthers finished with 12 total team blocks as Ohio Dominican's volleyball team defeated Lake Superior 3-1 in GLIAC play Saturday.
The Panthers won by scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22 in improving to 8-10 (3-6 GLIAC). The Lakers fell to 1-12 (1-8 GLIAC).
Kraemer finished with 13 kills and totaled eight blocks, while Reder finished with 12 terminations. Freshman Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) added eight kills and four blocks and sophomore Darby Slavin (Columbus, Ohio) led the way with 26 assists.
ODU trailed by as much as five in the first set before taking a 16-15 lead on a kill by freshman Taylor Foster (Ida, Mich.). Up 21-20, Reder and Kraemer teamed up on a block, and another block by Foster and Oestreich helped seal the set.
After dropping the second set, ODU used a 5-0 run in set number three to go in front 14-8. The lead would stretch to as much as 10 points at 21-11 on Oestreich's kill as the Panthers cruised to the win.
The final set was close throughout, with LSSU trailing just 19-18 late. However, three Laker errors and kills by Reder and junior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) helped the Panthers put the match away.
ODU hit .262 in the match, compared to .203 for Lake Superior.
Ohio Dominican returns home to host Northern Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday in Alumni Hall.
