Volleyball Opens Home Schedule With GLIAC Matches This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a long month on the road, Ohio Dominican's volleyball team begins its home schedule this weekend as the Panthers square off against Hillsdale and Northwood.

ODU faces off with Hillsdale at 5 p.m. Friday, while the Panthers and Northwood play at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Panthers come into the weekend with a 6-4 record overall (1-1 GLIAC) after splitting a pair of matches last weekend. ODU suffered a 3-0 defeat at Malone before bouncing back to take a 3-0 win at Walsh.

In the win over Walsh, the Panthers hit .281 for the match while limiting the Cavaliers to an .071 attack percentage, the second straight strong defensive performance for ODU.

Junior Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) hit .350 and had 10 kills, Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) tallied seven kills and Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.) and Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) had six kills apiece to lead ODU.

Barker also registered 12 digs, sophomore Kelsey Fortney (Lorain, Ohio) had 11 digs and 17 assists and freshman Megan Hendershot (Galloway, Ohio) tallied 10 digs as well to pace the Panthers.

As a team, the Panthers are hitting .189 this fall, led by Oestreich's .353 hitting percentage. Oestreich ranks second in the GLIAC in that category and her six solo blocks are fifth-most in the GLIAC.

Hendershot ranks 10th in the conference in digs (3.86 per set) and 11th in service aces (14), and sophomore Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) ranks ninth in the conference in blocks (33).

Hillsdale enters with a 3-7 record overall (0-2 GLIAC), though the Chargers have face one of the nation's toughest schedules thus far. Hillsdale is led by Emily Wolfert, who is averaging 2.97 kills per set, and Briana Herr who is hitting .379.

Last year, Hillsdale defeated ODU 3-1 as the Panthers hit just .049 in the match.

Northwood comes into play with a 5-5 record and is also seeking its first GLIAC victory. Juliia Pakhomenko leads the Timberwolves with 4.28 kills per set, Jordan Dunn is averaging 10.03 assists per set and Elizabeth Barkers averages over 4.5 digs per set.

Northwood swept the Panthers in 2012, hitting .517 in the match.
