NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team bounced back from a Friday night defeat by sweeping Walsh 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-22) on Saturday in GLIAC play.
With the win, ODU improved to 6-4 (1-1 GLIAC), while the Cavaliers fell to 3-6 (0-2 GLIAC).
The Panthers hit .281 for the match while limiting the Cavaliers to an .071 attack percentage, the second straight strong defensive performance for ODU.
Junior Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) hit .350 and had 10 kills, Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) tallied seven kills and Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.) and Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) had six kills apiece to lead ODU.
ODU started the first set on a 5-0 run, capped by Oestreich's kill, and didn't look back from there. The lead swelled to as much as 11 points, and the final margin would be 12. The Panthers hit .280 in the opening set, while Walsh finished with 10 hitting errors to just nine kills.
The Panthers got off to an even hotter start in the second set, racing out to a 13-1 lead and never looking back from there. ODU's defense again smothered the Cavaliers, limiting them to nine kills and nine errors for the frame.
ODU played from in front throughout the third set, though Walsh hung close. Leading 15-14, kills by Oestreich and Reder gave the Panthers a three-point cushion. Walsh would trim it to one on several occasions, including 22-21, but ODU closed strong as Taylor Foster (Ida, Mich.), Reder and Oestreich had kills to close out the match.
Ohio Dominican plays its home opener at 5 p.m. Friday against Hillsdale in Alumni Hall.
