LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for a fifth straight year for achieving a cumulative team GPA over a 3.30, the AVCA announced today.
The Panthers were one of seven GLIAC programs to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year and honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year.
A total of 77 Division II programs, just over 12 percent, earned the academic award for the 2012-13 academic year.
Last year, 10 members of the volleyball team earned GLIAC academic recognition, including seven who achieved over a 3.5 GPA – graduated seniors Kristy Birkemeier (Columbus Grove, Ohio) and Shannon Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio), rising senior Emily Post (St. Henry, Ohio), and rising juniors Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.), Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio), Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) and Kelsey Snyder (Macomb, Mich.).
The Panthers begin the 2013 season on Friday, Sept. 6 with a pair of matches at the Tony Banner Invitational, hosted by Clarion (Pa.) University.
