No. 13 – Women's Tennis Claims Dramatic Win Over Tiffin

The first dual match of the season for Ohio Dominican's women's tennis team proved to be an instant classic with GLIAC rival Tiffin on Sept. 8, 2012.

A four and a half hour marathon came down to the final match, with each side having claimed four points. ODU freshman Carla Leggett was locked in a tight contest at fifth singles against Tiffin sophomore Chelsea Beck. Leggett took the opening set 6-4, but fell 6-3 in the second set.

In the third set, Leggett fell behind again, but fought off three match points and rallied to take a 7-6 decision to lift the Panthers to the season-opening win.

Earlier in the match, ODU took two of the three doubles points. Samanta Zambrano and Aline Mariano cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Krista Derry and Anita Girzid also rolled to an 8-1 victory at third doubles.

Mariano earned a straight set victory at No. 3 singles and Regina Camberos rallied at fourth singles after dropping the first set to take a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win.

The Panthers would finish 7-7 in GLIAC action and qualified for their second consecutive GLIAC Tournament in the fall.
