INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team is projected fourth in the Great Midwest Coaches' Poll presented by Under Armour as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Panthers have 18 returning players from a team a year ago that went 10-6-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the conference.
Junior Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) leads the returners as she was a first team All-GMAC performer a year ago where she scored 11 goals and notched five assists. She also led the conference in game-winners with six on the season.
The Panthers return seven seniors to the lineup from a year ago as seniors Cheyenne Story (Canfield, Ohio) and Meghan Renius (Lambertville, Mich.) will look to lead the backline defense that gave up just 0.91 goals per game a season ago.
The midfield will also have a trio of seniors in Shelby Shotton (Marion, Illinois), Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich.) and Madeline Reimbold (Fort Wayne, Indiana). Junior Lindsay Buten (Cincinnati, Ohio) also returns for her third year in the midfield to join the three seniors.
Walsh sits atop the standings with 91 points and five first place votes while Findlay (86)(two first place votes) and Trevecca (85) (Three first place votes) were second and third, respectively. ODU had 72 points in fourth while Cedarville was fifth with 66 points and Ursuline was sixth with 57 points. Malone and Tiffin tied for seventh with 39 points and Kentucky Wesleyan had 30 points in ninth with Lake Erie (25) and Alderson Broaddus (15) rounding out the poll.
The Panthers open the season at Illinois-Springfield Friday, September 6 at 6 p.m. CT while the home opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 12 against Northwood at 7:30 p.m.
