COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team earned their first shutout of the 2018 season with a 1-0 win in their Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener against Malone on a rainy Thursday night at Panther Stadium.
With the continuous rain in the first half, both offenses struggled to get going as ODU had eight shots and the Pioneers had just three shots with both having three on goal. The closest the Panthers got to scoring was in the 18 minute when Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) had her shot hit the cross bar.
The Panthers jumped on the Pioneers in the second half as Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) found the back of the net for the fourth time this season in the 47 minute off a pass from sophomore Erika Stauble (Hamilton, Ohio).
ODU posted 21 total shots with just six on goal while the Panther defense held the Pioneers to just five shots with three on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) earned her first shutout of the year and 11 of her career as she played all 90 minutes once again for the Panthers between the posts.
With the win, the Panthers advance to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the G-MAC while Malone drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC.
Ohio Dominican stays at home as they host Walsh on Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
