Women's Soccer Drops Home-Opener to Saginaw Valley

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team was defeated 2-1 in a non-conference matchup with Saginaw Valley State in the 2018 home-opener on a warm Friday night at Panther Stadium.

A goal in the 78 minute from the Cardinals, Kylie Lukowski was the deciding factor as she recovered the rebound from the previous shot to find the back of the net.

The Panthers struck quick in the first half when senior Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) found the back of the net on a corner kick from junior Becca Gordon (Johnstown, Ohio) in the seventh minute to put the Panthers up 1-0.

In the 26 minute, the Cardinals knotted the game at 1-1 on a goal from Valentina Giambanco.

The Panthers came out aggressive racking up 10 fouls, three corner kicks and six shots with four on goal. They held the Cardinals to five shots with three on goal.

The Panthers had three shots in the second half with one being on target while the Cardinals had five with the one finding the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Marissa Weirzbicki (Powell, Ohio) played all 90 minutes in goal recording three saves on the evening.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they play Northwood on Sunday, September 2 at 2:30 at Panther Stadium.
