COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Great Midwest Athletic Conference match between Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team and Malone ended in a 1-1 (2OT) draw on a foggy night at Panther Stadium Thursday.
ODU (8-3-1, 6-1-1 G-MAC) held a decisive 25-11 shots advantage over Malone that included an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers also held a slight, 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) scored her second goal of the season on assists from senior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) and junior Anita Ferguson (Columbus, Ohio). Pavlik and senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) led Ohio Dominican with two shots on goal apiece.
ODU found the back of the net in the 70th minute, when a pass from Ferguson to Pavlik allowed the senior to find Buck on a brilliant cross. Buck handled the ball cleanly from the close left wing and put the ball to the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
But Malone scored 10 minutes later to earn the draw. Melissa Soltisz scored her first goal of the season on a shot from the top of the box that found the right side of the goal, knotting the contest at 1-1 in the 80th minute.
The Panthers saw another great scoring chance just before the end of the first overtime, when a header by Bates went off the crossbar in the 100th minute. Both defenses held firm in the second overtime, concluding the match in a 1-1 (2OT) tie.
Ohio Dominican will host unbeaten Walsh on Sunday, October 8 at 12 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
