COLUMBUS, Ohio — Quincy's Katie Heiligenstein scored just 8:15 into the match to push Quincy past Ohio Dominican women's soccer by a final mark of 1-0 in the 2017 season opener for both squads on Thursday evening at Panther Stadium.
Quincy held a slight 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, holding just an 11-10 overall shots mark in the second half.
Ohio Dominican (0-1-0, 0-0-0 G-MAC) saw its best opportunity at the 56:05 mark of the second half, when a shot by junior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) went just off the hands of Quincy goalkeeper Megan Swanson and deflected off the crossbar out of the goal on an impressive save by Swanson.
The Panthers attempted seven shots for the remainder of the match, but staunch defense by Quincy held ODU out of the goal, earning the 1-0 win for the Hawks.
ODU continues play against GLVC opponents this weekend, facing No. 11 Truman at Panther Stadium on Saturday at 12 p.m.
