Women’s Soccer Picked Third In Great Midwest Coaches Poll, Notches Two First Place Votes

INDIANAPOLIS — With 112 points and two first place votes, Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team was tabbed third in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour, the conference announced Friday.

ODU was one of just three teams to garner multiple first place votes. Trevecca Nazarene, the 2016 Great Midwest regular season champion, topped the poll with 123 points and five first place votes, while Ursuline tallied 113 points and two first place votes to rank second in the voting.

The Panthers are entering their first season of competition in the Great Midwest after competing in the GLIAC from 2010-2016. ODU advanced to the semifinal round of the GLIAC Tournament in two of the last three seasons, earned the 2011 and 2014 GLIAC regular season championships and notched a berth in the GLIAC Tournament championship in 2014.

Twenty two upperclassmen return for the Panthers, who finished fourth in the 2016 GLIAC regular season standings and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament. Senior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) returns after leading the team in goals scored a season ago, finding the back of the net nine times. Juniors Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) and Allie Atkinson (Ontario, Ohio) also return after leading ODU in assists last season with four apiece.

The Panthers also bring back their top goalkeepers from 2016. Senior Kelsey Harris (Mason, Ohio) and junior Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) return after combining for 120 saves.

Ohio Dominican also welcomes eight newcomers to the team, including senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio), who joins the squad this season after finishing 17th on the ODU women's basketball all-time scoring list in her time from 2013-2017.

The squad will compete in exhibition matches with Urbana, Ashland and Tiffin prior to the start of the regular season before welcoming Quincy for its season opening match on Thursday, August 31 at 5 p.m. at Panther Stadium.

ODU will host Quincy and Truman to kick off the year and will continue its non-conference slate when it travels to Saginaw Valley and Northwood on September 8 & 10. The Panthers will take on Findlay in their first Great Midwest contest on September 6 and overall, Ohio Dominican will play 18 regular season contests with nine on the pitch at Panther Stadium.

Ohio Dominican will face Urbana in its first exhibition contest on Sunday, August 20 at Panther Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
