COLUMBUS, Ohio — A goal in the 57th minute by Ohio Dominican junior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) on an assist from senior Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) earned a 1-1 (2OT) tie for the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team against Walsh on Senior Day at Panther Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Ohio Dominican (5-6-5, 4-3-3 GLIAC) held a slight 20-19 shot advantage over Walsh (8-5-4, 3-4-3 GLIAC), with shots on goal tied at 8-8. The Panthers held a distinct 14-6 advantage in shots in the second half. ODU also earned nine corner kicks compared to four for Walsh.
Pavlik earned her seventh goal of the season and Johnson recorded her seconded assist of the year.
Junior Kelsey Harris (Mason, Ohio) earned the decision, recording a total of four saves and no goals allowed in 65 minutes of action at goalkeeper. Sophomore Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) started the contest and finished with three saves and one goal allowed in 45 minutes of action.
The Cavaliers struck first, scoring in the sixth minute on a goal from the close left wing, giving Walsh a 1-0 lead.
But the Panthers responded in the second half. Following a Walsh foul, Johnson took a free kick from approximately 40 yards out, finding Pavlik in the box, who was able to control the ball and put it through to the back of the net to tie the match, 1-1 at the 56:13 mark.
The two teams could not find the goal for the remainder of the match. ODU's defense held strong in the second overtime, holding the Cavs scoreless despite five shots, earning the 1-1 tie.
With the draw, Ohio Dominican clinched a birth to the GLIAC tournament and will travel to Findlay for its final regular season match on Friday at 3 p.m.
