BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team fell 1-0 (2OT) to Ferris State in a close contest at Top Taggart Field on Friday afternoon in a non-conference matchup between the two GLIAC opponents.
The Panthers (1-2-2, 0-0-0 GLIAC) recorded 19 shots overall and 13 shots on goal, with Ferris State goalkeeper Grace Kraft recording 13 saves for the match.
Junior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) led ODU with eight shots overall and six shots on goal. Sophomore Jenna Fodor (Hilliard, Ohio) finished with two shots and one shot on goal. Senior Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio), senior Madison Baldwin (Zanesville, Ohio) and freshman Cheyenne Story (Canfield, Ohio) also finished with one shot on goal apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Harris (Mason, Ohio) recorded five saves in her fifth appearance between the posts for the Panthers, playing in the second half and overtime periods. Sophomore Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) earned her fifth start of the year at goalkeeper for Ohio Dominican, not allowing a goal for the fourth match this season.
ODU held Ferris State scoreless through regulation and the first overtime, going into the second and final overtime period tied 0-0. But Ferris State's Kate Kelly was able to score on a header after a long free kick found its way past the Panther defenders, earning the game winning goal and win for Ferris State, 1-0.
Ohio Dominican will continue its road trip on Sunday, September 18 when it faces No. 2 Grand Valley State (3-0-1, 0-0-0 GLIAC) at 1 p.m. in Allendale, Michigan on ESPN3.
