SOMERS, Wis. -- The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team's season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Saginaw Valley State 1-0.
The Panthers end the season with a 15-5-1 overall record. With the win, the Cardinals (11-3-3) will advance to the Regional Semifinals.
With the start today, senior Jordan Mazzi (Sunbury, OH) broke the record for most games played all-time by any women's player at Ohio Dominican.
The Panthers and Cardinals played to a scoreless draw in the first 45 minutes. In the 61st minute Ashley Henderson gave SVSU a 1-0 lead off an assist from Holly Laser.
The Panthers outshot the Cardinals 6-1 after the goal, but it was not enough as SVSU held on to win 1-0.
For the match, ODU outshot SVSU 17-8, but the Cardinals held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. ODU also recorded all seven corner kicks of the match.
Mazzi and senior Broegan Sautter (Bellville, OH) each recorded five shots to lead the Panthers.
The Black and Gold set many records this season including both individual and team records. Senior goalkeeper Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) ends her Panther career with the most games played (63), most wins (32), most minutes logged (5782:25), and shutouts (22). Clark also ranks second all-time with 262 career saves.
Mazzi finishes her career ranked in the top 10 all-time in ODU history in goals (20) and points (44) to go along with her games played mark.
Freshman Ashley Blake (Hilliard, OH) finished the season with 10 goals ranking eighth all-time for goals in a season, as well as, tied for fifth for most goals by a newcomer. Blake also ranked eighth in points in a season with a total of 25, while also ranking ninth in assists with five.
As a team the Panthers set the school mark for most wins a season (15), most consecutive wins (10), longest unbeaten streak (10), most postseason wins (2), most games played (4), and most consecutive postseason wins (2).
