COLUMBUS, Ohio — With a first place finish at the Capital Purple and White Spring Invitational in its last tournament, Ohio Dominican's women's golf team will look to carry its momentum into the 2017 GLIAC Women's Golf Championship at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio this weekend.
The tournament, which will consist of three rounds, begins Friday, April 21 at 8 a.m. and will conclude Sunday, April 23, with final round competition starting at 12:30 p.m. The Virtues Golf Club was named the top public golf course in Ohio in 2016 by Golf Magazine, and will test players' abilities with par set at 72 and a total distance of 5,926 yards.
The GLIAC Championships this weekend mark the first time the women's squad has competed at The Virtues, and last season, ODU finished in a tie for seventh at the 2016 GLIAC Women's Golf Championship with a three-round score of 998 (340-326-332).
Senior Erin Smiddy (Liberty Township, Ohio) has led Ohio Dominican in 2016-17, boasting a .717 winning percentage with an average score of 79.9. Smiddy has finished as tournament medalist twice this spring and is just +8 relative to par this year.
ODU has seen strong contributions this year from freshmen Emma Romine (Marysville, Ohio) and Bailey Krueger (Canal Winchester, Ohio). Romine ranks second on the squad in average round score at 83.7 with a .537 winning percentage. Krueger has finished in the top third of the field in three tournaments this spring and boasts two top 12 finishes.
Sophomore Kaylin Dill (Sedalia, Ohio) enters the weekend with an average round score of 86.2. The sophomore boasts the sixth-lowest round score of the year for ODU, achieving a career-low round of 78 in round one of the Northwood Invitational on October 4, 2016.
