COLUMBUS, Ohio – A tough shooting performance resulted in a 55-50 setback for Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team against Davis & Elkins Saturday afternoon in G-MAC play from Alumni Hall.
The Panthers had taken a 48-45 lead with 4:33 to play on a triple by junior Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio), but the Senators closed the game on a 10-2 run. Senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) made a jumper to put the Panthers in front 50-49 with 3:16 left, but ODU missed its last six shots of the game as D&E rallied for the win.
ODU shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field and went to the free throw line just twice. The Panthers limited D&E to 32.2 percent shooting (19-of-59), but the Senators finished 11-of-14 at the line as ODU was whistled for 18 fouls to 12 for D&E.
Junior guard Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) scores 21 points and grabbed five boards to lead ODU, while Overly finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) pulled down 11 rebounds, her third straight game in double figures in that category.
The Panthers led 22-20 with 3:50 to play in the second quarter before D&E answered with an 11-4 run to close the half and lead 31-26 at intermission.
Both sides struggled offensively in the third quarter, with ODU shooting 4-of-14 and D&E 3-of-14, and the Senators kept a 40-34 lead heading to the fourth.
D&E bumped its lead to 43-34 early in the fourth, but the Panthers caught fire for a stretch, with Fisher hitting a three, Overly a jumper, and Fisher another triple to close the gap to 43-42 with 7:11 left. Another three by Fisher tied the score at 45 with 5:47 left, and Clark's three just over a minute later gave the Panthers their biggest edge of the second half.
ODU remains at home to take on Findlay at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
