Second Half Surge Pushes Women's Basketball Over Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – A strong second half pushed Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team to a 76-65 win over Hillsdale in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Junior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers with 22 points and eight rebounds while senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) had 15 points and five rebounds.  

The Chargers got out to a 10-4 lead early in the first quarter but a 7-0 Panther run capped by a Fisher layup gave the Panthers the lead with 4:16 remaining in the quarter.

Hillsdale would gain an 18-13 advantage with 3:13 remaining and took a 21-17 lead at the end of the period.

The Chargers would gain a nine point lead at 26-17 with 7:26 remaining in the half and would grow that lead to 13 at 35-22 with 3:41 remaining before a pair of Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) free throws ended the Charger run and the teams would go to the locker room with Hillsdale leading 38-29.

With the score 41-32 favor of the Chargers in the third quarter, the Panthers would cut their deficit to two at 43-41 on the back of a 9-2 run capped off with a pair of Fisher free throws and ODU would trail 50-48 heading into the final frame.

The final frame saw the Panthers outscore the Chargers 28-15 in which an Overly three at the 9:39 mark gave the Panthers a 51-50 lead. Hillsdale would regain the lead at 55-51 before a 13-2 Panther run gave ODU a 64-57 lead at the 4:19 mark.

The Chargers would cut the lead to two at 64-62 and the Panthers closed the game on a 12-3 run to seal the victory.

ODU advances to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference while Hillsdale drops to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

The Panthers come back home next week as they host Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, January 17 with tip set for 5:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
